Here is a list of classes I've taken so far since starting working towards my Graphic Design Degree
Type and Layout is a class that teaches us how to effectively use typography in design. We’ve done projects ranging from posters, type figures, forms, newsletters, postcards, and to our final project for the advanced class, a zine! Though these classes are on the more difficult side, this class is a lot of fun and if you are wanting to pursue design, I definitely recommend taking this class.
Indesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator are all Adobe softwares that can be used in all kinds of ways in design. Indesign is more for organizing copy, it’s great for things like newspapers and books. Photoshop is good for editing and creating raster images, which are images made out of pixels. Lastly, Illustrator is best used for editing and creating vectors, which don’t use any pixels.
Web Design is actually the class that I made this website in! This class teaches you how to code your own website using html code. This class is more difficult, especially if you are learning how to code for the first time (like I am). Though it is still a lot of fun and it makes you feel accomplished.
Lastly, is the Design courses. As of now, I have only taken the beginning design class, though in that class it teaches you a lot about the different elements and principles of design. We also learn the importance of clean presentation, which was once my biggest struggle, but now I feel like a pro. I’ve also learned a lot about working under strict guidelines, such as lots of design limitations, and especially color limitations. For the majority of this class I only used Black and white in my work.
